The RFU has launched an investigation into the behaviour of Saracens South African director of rugby Brendan Venter and his South African Hooker Schalk Brits during Saturday's first win at Welford Road.

Leicester Tigers received a formal complaint after the final whistle from supporters who were not happy about how Venter and Brits behaved in the match.

Spectators complained to stewards that Venter was blocking their view every time he stood up in the Saracens coaching area in the Crumbie Stand.

Venter apparently aggravated the situation by waving, blowing kisses and bowing to spectators before leaving his seat for the touchline four minutes from time.

Brits is also under investigation for making a one-fingered gesture to the crowd as he left the pitch when he was substituted with a neck injury in the second half. He has however since made a public apology and described his gesture as "out of character and not acceptable".

The RFU will consider a report from referee Andrew Small and Leicester Tigers before considering if further action needs to be taken against Venter or Brits.

"We are awaiting a report from the match referee and any formal complaint from Leicester Tigers or their fans before considering what action, if any, should be taken," an RFU spokesman told the Telegraph.

Venter has tried to explain his eccentric behaviour as being "funny".

Venter and Brits' conduct detracted from the match which saw Leicester surrender a 31-match unbeaten home record stretching back to September 2008.

There were no complaints from Leicester head coach Richard Cockerill had no complaints about the match and said,"We got exactly what we deserved which is a defeat."
