Leeds Carnegie held on after leading 12-3 at the break to beat Worcester Warriors 12-10 in the match that was billed as the Million Pound Match at Headingly on Sunday.

The match was billed as the "Million Pound Match" as it was crucial to both team's survival.

The win which was secured by four Ceiron Thomas penalties means that Leeds retain their status in the Premiership after being promoted at the start of the season, while Worcester have to face up to life out of the top flight after six years in the Premiership.

Worcester's losing bonus point lifts them to 27 points, five behind second-from-bottom Sale Sharks, but the Manchester side's total of six wins means they cannot be overhauled by the Warriors.

Worcester gave Leeds a late scare in the 70th minute with a converted try by Alex Grove and could have stolen the result with a Matthew Jones penalty or his drop goal attempt in the final five minutes.

The hosts opened up a 12-point gap in the first 25 minutes as Ceiron Thomas slotted four penalties.

Willie Walker put the Warriors' first points on the board five minutes before the break as the score was 12-3 at half-time.

After the interval neither side could put together a decent attack and Leeds held on to their half time lead.
