Saracens smashed Harlequins 37-18 at Wembley giving their chances of making the play-off semi-finals a big boost.

Sarries were in the lead from the start of the match as former Springbok fly-half Derick Hougaard slotted a penalty in the 12th minute.

Rory Clegg leveled matters with a penalty of his own but Sarries flanker Andy Saull scored two quick-fire tries to put his side in charge of the match at 15-3.

Quins reduced the gap with their opening try being provided by Chris Brooker in the 26th minute as the sides went into the dressing rooms at 18-8 to the men in black.

The second half was all Sarries as they ran in three unanswered tries. Schalk Brits kicked off the free-flowing play by the hosts with a try 10 minutes into the half as Sarries went 17 points clear.

The one-way traffic continued as Michael Tagicakibau put his name on the score-board before Ernst Joubert made it five tries to one in the 69th minute to take the score well beyond Quins' reach.

The visitors went on the attack late-on and were rewarded as Chris York and Ugo Monye scored a try each, but it was too late to influence the result as Saracens cruised to victory.
