Harlequins have announced that their England and British Lions winger Ugo Monye has signed a new two year contract which will see him complete a ten year stint at the club he joined as an 18 year old Academy player in 2002. During this time the 26 year old has made 118 appearances for the 1st XV scoring 53 tries.
The incoming Director of Rugby, Conor O'Shea said,"I am delighted that Ugo has pledged his future to the club when he was offered both opportunity and increased financial rewards to move elsewhere.
"Ugo was the first Harlequins Academy player to be selected for the Lions and has reached a level of maturity which should see him play his very best rugby in the next few years. The fans at the Stoop love him and I am sure they will be as pleased as I am that he will continue to deliver on the pitch in a Harlequins shirt."
Ugo himself commented, "I'm thrilled to have committed my future to Harlequins for at least the next two years. Harlequins has always been a place I've loved, made very special by everyone who has supported me throughout my career as well as all the supporters who have cheered for me week in week out and will hopefully continue to do so. I look forward to working with Conor O'Shea and being a big part of what I believe is a great rugby club."
Meanwhile the current England U20 centre Tom Casson has signed for Harlequins on a two and a half year contract with immediate effect. One of the most promising midfield backs in the country Tom was previously with Saracens but has decided to renew his partnership with Rory Clegg that has proved so fruitful at age group level. He will join two other very talented young centres at Harlequins in the form of George Lowe and Jordan Turner Hall
"I am sure everyone will make Tom very welcome at Harlequins. He is a player both Tony Diprose and I have rated for a number of years despite his tender years and we are looking forward to him fulfilling his potential alongside the host of talented English qualified backs we have at Harlequins" said Conor O'Shea.
