Former Wales and British and Irish Lions back-rower Colin Charvis has been charged with drink-driving.

The former international rugby star who was born in Birmingham England but played for Wales was pulled over by police and arrested on Sunday following a night out in Cardiff.

The 36-year-old, who was capped 94 times by Wales and scored 22 international tries will appear at the city's magistrates' court later this month.

Newport Gwent Dragons, where Charvis is employed as a defence coach, declined to comment on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police told PA Sport: "A 36-year-old man from the Swansea area was arrested on Sunday, October 4 for drink-driving and has been charged."

"He will appear in court on October 19 2009 at 10am."
